Charles Bentley PhD

Background

Charles' Unitive approach to personal and professional life coaching has evolved as a result of many years experience in the field of human potential. After graduating as a pharmaceutical chemist at King's College in the University of London and qualifying as a member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, his subsequent research into the mind-changing effects of psychotropic drugs convinced him of the need for a radically different, self-empowering approach by which individuals could learn how to take personal responsibility for change in their lives, rather than be influenced by medication, indoctrination or other external means.

After gaining a master’s degree in phenomenological psychology from Goddard College, in Vermont, USA, he re-located to the Netherlands to work with Dr Jay Stattman, the principal of the Institute of Unitive Psychology in Utrecht, where he completed his doctoral thesis and was subsequently appointed associate staff member and scientific consultant at the Institute, working with Jay in setting up human potential courses, seminars and training facilities all over Europe.

Over the last thirty years he has worked in the UK, Europe and the USA as a professional agent of change with many international companies and a wide range of institutions, including the National Health Service, the Burton Group PLC, Abbey Life Assurance Group, ICS Learning Systems Inc., the Franciscan Order at Westminster Cathedral, and the TUC/EEC sponsored life skills and learning project in the North West of England.
